Children’s clothing evolved as with all the things that are now present today.

From the beginning, children’s clothing used color to separate the genders.

Especially in the olden days where little boys looked like little girls, the distinction can be made by the color of the clothes.

Girls wore pink and little boys wore blue, this is as much true today as it is in the era of days gone by.

Because of historical accounts available like painting and photographs, it was not easily distinguished if a child was male or female.

Thus, not only do the clothes determined the gender but the general appearance as well.

This was manifested by the hair style that they were told to wear.

It became a strong convention that little girls wear pretty dresses and their hair long while the little boys were told to wear the pants and sport short hair.

However due to the evolution of time, little girls of today have adopted to wearing pants but the day hasn’t come yet where the boys adopted the dresses of girls!

In our modern world today, a general convention exists that girls are able to wear the clothes of boys but never the other way around.

But that wasn’t the case in the 19th century where little girls and boys were dressed alike.

Although during that time, girls were not allowed to dress in pants, otherwise, there was not much difference in the way they were dressed.

Up to the time of the second world war, clothes associated with girls were dresses, pantalets, smocks and pinafores.

Dresses

This was the basic clothing of girls up to the second world war since it was not everyday occurrence that girls wore pants or shorts before the war.

Bloomers

This was another staple in the little girls’ clothing where it served its purpose of providing an alternative option to the restrictive and binding fashion sense during the 19th century.

This can be attributed to Amelia Bloomer born 1818-1894 who was an American reformer espousing this cause.

But the bloomer concept must be credited to Elizabeth Smith Miller as she was creator of the bloomers.

Although this type of garment did not bloom at all.

Rompers

These were worn both by the girls and boys that were used primarily for play time.

By the end of the second world war, rompers were basic staples for little girls wardrobe.

They were usually used as costumes or uniforms for gym classes of girls.

Smocks

This is one generic children’s clothing of years gone by.

As this was so common, different styles, accessories, adornments, and other details filled the repertoire of how a smock can look like.

There were smocks of different colors, smocks with different buttoning styles — buttons located at the back, in the front, or on the side.

There were also smocks with collars, with trims, with ties, with pockets, with belts, etc.

It was usual in the 1950s that smocks of identical cut were bought by mothers for their children.

Pinafores

This was a very essential piece of garment for the girls’ wardrobe as they were usually worn by little girls of Europe and America.

Pantalets

These were worn both by boys and girls.

Usually, boys wore plain pantalets while girls wore the fancier ones.

But there were some boys who like to wear fancy Pantalets too.

Sailor suits

This was basically a boy’s garment but it became a unisex garment as girls started to wear sailor suits too.

Babies and Toddlers – How to Succeed 3

Development

An infant between 12 months and 36 months old exhibits a number of changes that form part of its process of development. The following series of observations focuses on that particular time span, and highlights those changes that may be classified as a “milestone.” It will consider what may be defined as an average child covering specific time periods within this development phase.

Age – 15 to 18 Months

Physical

Able to walk well, without any help, and without having to hold onto anything and exhibit a certain degree of confidence.

May be able to bend down, such as in the process of picking up something, and then be able to stand up again, all with no outside help.

May be confident enough to hold a crayon, or other marking device, and so be able to scribble on paper or make an elementary form of characterture.

The ability to hold and lift up a cup and direct it to the mouth, without undue spillage, so as to drink the contents.

By now, the child should be able to climb up or onto various objects, such as furniture, with increasing confidence and without the danger of causing injury.

Mental

Able to progress from the use of four and six letter words to the use of anything between 10 and 20 words – such increase in vocabulary will quickly gain in momentum.

Another progression will be that involving the delivery of instructions to the child – by this stage, the necessity of hand gestures associated with the instructions should no longer be necessary.

By now, basic mental coordination should allow the child to use building blocks in such a way as to create vertical piles at least two blocks high.

The infant may be more aware by now that objects continue to exist even when they are no longer visible, e.g. putting a toy in a box and closing the lid so the child can no longer see it.

This is an example of object permanence, which is a measure of the development in the child’s intelligence

Emotional

The child should now be able to identify various individuals with whom it meets on a regular basis, and so convey some form of acknowledgement and recognition.

The natural inquisition should manifest itself in the re-enactment of certain activities which the child sees adults performing on a regular basis, such as doing the washing up, or answering the phone.

Both these events help to reinforce the child’s level of confidence in itself, and develop the social skills.

Postpartum Depression Linked to Increased Risk of Injury to Babies & Toddlers

Depression occurs commonly after childbirth. Baby Blues is a very common complaint after the birth of a child but postpartum depression can be a serious issue and must be addressed. Many mothers will experience mood swings, slight depression, and may have trouble concentrating.

Additionally the mother may also have difficulty sleeping even when the baby is sleeping. Loss of appetite is not uncommon. These symptoms usually start about 3 to 4 days after delivery and they may last several days. The new mother may be happy one minute and crying the next. This is known as Baby Blues.

The symptoms are normal and are usually gone after about ten days. Postpartum depression can last much longer. This depression can begin weeks or months after childbirth. Postpartum depression is an illness that requires treatment.

Symptoms can include the following:

# Sadness that is unexplained

# Frequent crying or tearfulness

# Restlessness

# Irritability

# Anxiousness

# Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities

# Loss of appetite

# Decreased energy

# Lack of motivation

# Difficulty sleeping

# Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or hopelessness

# Weight gain or loss

# Feeling that life is not worth living

# Little interest in the baby

Just as a side note, in addition to those symptoms some women have thoughts of hurting themselves and or the baby. This is postpartum psychosis and obviously is very serious.

Postpartum depression affects approximately 15 to 20 percent of women and 10 percent of men. Fathers of nine month olds seem particularly likely to develop symptoms of major depression. This may be related to financial stress or changes in the spousal relationship. Some husbands feel the wife is more focused on the baby than on him and this adjustment can be difficult.

Symptoms of depression include the inability to concentrate or focus. Irritability is also common. These symptoms can result in poor or inconsistent supervision and or enforcement of safety related rules.

According to a recent study infants and toddlers (3 months to 2 years) of mothers suffering with postpartum depression are more likely to suffer accidental injuries than other children in the same age group. It is possible that this is related to the mothers not properly safeguarding the children.

Socio-economic status, parenting styles, sex of children, behavior or temperament of the children had little or no bearing on the link between the depression in the mothers and the injuries in the young children.

The study indicated that children three years old and above fared better. This may be due to the fact that children of this age group are beginning to make their own decisions related to safety.

Birthday & Children jokes, Funny Baby & Toddlers Humour

It’s amazing how a child can be humorous, satirical comic situation arise which can, with children in this hilariously funny birthday, children, baby and toddler jokes …

When the little girl returned from her friend’s birthday party, asked her mother she had thanked the hostess of the party before leaving. “No!” said the little girl, “the person in front of me, and said the mother of my friend:” Do not mention it, so I have not …”

“So what are we then – boy or girl asked? “one of the baby twins, and I know how to find out,” said the other and disappeared under the blanket, then again, and declared: “I am a boy, and you’re a girl.” “Oh, oh, how clever you are!” called the girl Baby, “How say you could!?” Baby and Child declared proudly: “Oh, it was easy to say, I wear blue booties, and you wear pink …”

An elderly man asked a boy if he could see him on the street. The boy crossed the street to stand on the sidewalk, turned to him and cried: “Yes .. I …”

The little girl a few pieces of bread thrown to a bird in a zoo, and if the bird looked at her more, she asked her mother what bird was. Said that it was a stork, which the little girl was so excited, “O-oh .. it must have known me !..”
/> <br the little boy came running in and excitedly announced the cat that he sold for £ 10,000. "ooh ..." asked his father: "you pay by check?" "no." the boy replied, "i have two cats £ 5,000 for them ..."

” you have a display. in the local paper about your dog missing ..? “asked one boy’s Friend. “Do not be silly ..” he said, “My dog can not read …”

The little girl, before going to bed, told her prayer: “… God, please make bad people good.” Then she added: “And good people nice …”

“Yup!” the boy boasted to their friends: “I jumped on a young girl the other day, she lay on the floor, pulled up her skirt, tore off her stockings, grabbed her panties .. and pulled the elastic of my catapult!”

“Uncle will not arrive today,” announced mother after she was telephoned the news: “He’s missed the train and will start today at the same time tomorrow.” “Oh, God!” said the little girl, “He will again there is no, then he is not when it begins simultaneously …!?”

An anecdote about his childhood in a rather thick eldest son, the teacher and thinkers of the late Orhan Seyfi Ari: “Other children grow vertically, horizontally Mine!”

“As you have the black eye!?” cried the little boy mother. “She told me that good guys do not fight,” he said, “but it struggled !..”

” You ask so many questions, I can not know the answers to all of them ” cried a bit tired, a parent, “You know what would have happened if I had asked my parents so many questions as you!?” The child thought, then replied: “You might know the answers ..?”

have “Thank you, Auntie,” said the little girl when she opened her birthday present, “I always wanted a beautiful pin cushion .. but not very much …”
