Seychelles Holidays on a Budget
The Seychelles can certainly make for a fantastic holiday. Located in the Indian Ocean, the archipelago’s sun-kissed beaches could be the perfect place for a vacation whether you’re on a summer holiday with your friends or enjoying a romantic getaway with your partner.
But while holidays to the Seychelles can be the trip of a lifetime, heading to the destination does not mean you have to break the bank. Even though visiting involves long-haul travel, you could discover that a holiday in the African nation will cost much less than you first thought.
This is because much of what makes the Seychelles such a fantastic holiday destination can be enjoyed either for free or for very little money.
And you will certainly find this the case if you want to soak up the sun. The Seychelles’ tropical location makes it the perfect place to work on your tan, so you may be glad to know the vast majority of the country’s beaches are open to the public. This means it will not cost you a thing to position yourself underneath a palm tree and catch some rays.
Of course, if the sweltering temperatures get a bit too much for you – the country tends to experience its hottest weather between April and October – take a dip in the crystal-clear waters.
However, there are plenty of things that can be enjoyed in the Seychelles away from lying on the beach if you are trying to stick to a budget.
If you’re a watersports aficionado you may be glad to know that pursuits such as snorkelling can be enjoyed in locations throughout the Seychelles for not much money. All you will need is a mask and snorkel which can be hired locally.
And as you explore underwater you may be able to get a glimpse of creatures such as ribbon-tailed stingrays and long-nosed hawkfish.
However, it is possible to enjoy fun-filled low-cost holidays to the Seychelles without having to get your feet wet.
You will find several hiking routes located in Mahe, the country’s largest island, so strapping on your boots and going for a walk could help you to see more of the country.
Walking along the Glacis La Reserve trail will take you through the island’s palm forests and give you the chance to see native creatures such as the bulbul and blue pigeon. However, for a more strenuous hike you could ascend Morne Seychellois. The highest peak in Mahe, it stands some 905 metres above sea level.
And if you want to see more of the Seychelles’ awe-inspiring natural scenery, you may be happy to hear giant tortoises can be spotted throughout the country.
The Aldabra Atoll can be a great place for you to observe these creatures. Consisting of four coral islands, some 152,000 giant tortoises are thought to live on the Unesco World Heritage site.
If you are keen to enjoy a low-cost break in the Seychelles, a visit to some of its manmade attractions – including the Seychelles National Museum of History, the Dauban Mausoleum and Victoria Clocktower – can make for great days out without costing the earth.
Meanwhile, a trip to the Bel Air Cemetery provides the chance to see the gravestones of some of the country’s most historic personalities.
