Someone Else’s Trash Can Be Your Treasure

Published by admin under Crafts Hobbies

Someone Else's Trash Can Be Your Treasure Have you ever found some nice things that were still in excellent condition sitting on the curb for garbage? Well, in my case someone else’s trash, has put money into my purse. Living in or going through a pretty nice neighborhood can be very beneficial, especially on garbage day. I have passed by something on the side of the road and asked myself, are they really going to throw that out?

The majority of people throwing out nice or excellent conditioned items, usually have lots of money and assets already. Their main goal is to keep up with the Kardashians. For instance, family A went and bought a 48 inch flat screen TV two months ago. They were talking to their neighbors (family B) when they found out that family B has a 52 inch flat screen with 3D. Now family A gets rid of the t.v that they have only had for two months, just to keep up with family B. Or plain and simple, they just don’t want that particular item anymore and set it out for the trash. That’s where I come along and take their trash and turn it into a gift or better yet, cash!

When you see something set out for trash that looks pleasing to the eye get it, test it, and research it. For example, I found an electric guitar sitting on the side of the road. I didn’t own amps or any type of guitar equipment, but I did remember my neighbors had a rock band and they could help me out with information on the electric guitar. I recommend researching the item you have found, that way you educate yourself on what you have. Information such as original cost, year, make, model type, and compatible items can be very beneficial for you. When doing research online, I found that this is a very common electric guitar which was made in 2007 and originally cost $449.00. I didn’t have any interest in guitar playing, so my neighbors (with the rock band) offered to buy it for $200.00 and it was sold!

Just recently someone had a box with PS2 games (20 of them), PS2 Game system, wireless controller, and 8 megaByte memory card on the side of the road for garbage. I couldn’t tell whether it worked or whether everything was intact until I got it home. Good thing it worked because my 11-year-old nephew had a birthday right around the corner.

You never know what you may find sitting on the curb waiting for the garbage truck. Anything that you think that may have some value get it and do some light research on it. You may find out some very surprising news about that item.

It’s only natural that you want to keep some of what you find. What you don’t want to keep, use it for gifts for your friends and family or post it on Craigslist, and see what happens.

Secret Metal Detecting Tips On Local Beaches

Published by admin under Crafts Hobbies

Secret Metal Detecting Tips On Local BeachesMetal detecting is best on beaches during the summer. The sun, sand and water attract high traffic during the summertime which means there is more possibility of finding lost treasures. With this knowledge, more and more detectorists are combing the beaches in search of buried items. Due to this competition, you’ll have to learn some secrets that only a few know about to produce more finds.

Naturally, the beach is more frequented during the summer months. This is the perfect time to go metal detecting. Since there are many people visiting the beach, there will be more items lost that you can pick up. Early mornings and late evenings are best to go detecting.

Try going where most novice detectorists don’t. Saltwater hunting is a little more difficult but you can uncover hidden treasures that others pass up. This type of hunting does require a waterproof detector and you will need to enter the shallow waters. You can take advantage of the low tides and enter areas where there might be buried treasures. You might encounter lots of trash that comes from the swash of the water, but this just means that you must go in a little further. Because you’re in the water it’s harder to hear the detector signals. You’ll have to listen for the tiny signals and dig up what you can. If you don’t find anything, you can always wait a few days since the tide just might bring something in for you.

You can get a leg up on the competition by combing the beach with some planning. Newcomers to metal detecting usually do random searching. They are just hitting popular spots with no plan at all. Take a little time and decide in what manner you will be gridding the beach. Gridding the beach is a search method where you cover a smaller area of the beach that has had high traffic in a specific pattern. You can choose which pattern you’ll search in: circular, straight or sideways straight. For a circular pattern you will start in the middle of the beach and walk your way around making larger circles as you comb the area. You can try a straight pattern where you start walking straight from the high bank line to the low tide line. Or, you can begin at the high bank line and detect sideways turning after 12 feet or more and moving a foot over which is called the straight sideways pattern.

While your choice of gridding the beach is about preference, with either of these patterns you are marking the area with your feet so that you know where you combed and where you still need to search. This definitely gives you an advantage over those who randomly search the beach and end up searching the same spot over and over.

The secret to great finds on the beach is to have a plan when metal detecting. If you have a plan and comb popular areas of the beach you are bound to uncover some hidden item that others might have overlooked because they didn’t have a specific plan or method of metal detecting.
