Beginner Vegetable Gardening Tips

Published by admin under Gardening

Beginner Vegetable Gardening TipsBeginner vegetable gardening can seem like a daunting task.

Where do you start?

First you need to decide where to plant a vegetable garden. If you have property to grow on, no problem and even if all you have is a deck or a patio, this is not really a problem either.

By far one of the best methods for beginner vegetable gardening is raised bed gardening. Raised beds are above ground level and therefore can be easily adapted to the deck or patio to grow some wonderful vegetable crops.

Choose an area that gets a good amount of sun, but even if you don’t get a lot of sun, don’t worry, as you can still be successful. Mark out where you are going to put your vegetable beds. A square area works better than a long rectangular one. You can make your beds but using 2″ by 12″ boards of the desired length to meet with your garden bed size. Screw them together and you have your bed. Do not use treated wood to make a vegetable garden as the chemicals used to treat the wood will leach into your food.

If you haven’t already, you will need to begin to compost. Composting will produce nutrient rich soil which is essential for your plants. You can get plans online to build a composter bin, purchase a couple of readymade ones and there is even a compact composter you can buy to put under your kitchen sink in an apartment.

Until you produce your own composted soil, your beginner vegetable garden will need to use a good composted soil mix. Steer manure based soils are great as they are not too alkaline and are safe. Try to look for and use organic mixes. Also, before you put your soil in, it is a good idea to cover the bottom of the boxes with straw, hay or even better, alfalfa. This will give your soil good drainage as well as give it a proper base with which to start.

Once you begin to fill your beds, make sure you leave a path where you can get to the vegetables if you walk down the middle of the garden. Try to make the plants no further than 3 feet away from where you can safely walk so you will be able to reach them.

Now you are ready to take an exciting step in beginner vegetable gardening, planting. A good choice is starting with seedlings. Seedlings have a head start in life and will quickly spread their roots and take hold. Plant fairly close together but not so close they will be choking each other out. Also, plant the various vegetables right next to each other. The less room between the plants, the less space for weeds to take hold and grow. This can greatly reduce your work and makes beginner vegetable gardening more enjoyable.

Water your garden well throughout the season and watch as the miracle of growth happens before your eyes.

Nothing is more exciting as when you feel the satisfaction and reward of harvesting food you grew yourself.

Infant Teething Signs and Symptoms

Published by admin under Babies Toddler

Infant Teething Signs and SymptomsInfant teething is a difficult stage which mothers and babies should get through during infancy. The development of the teeth is entailed with pains and hassles that only parents who are knowledgeable of the infant’s needs during teething could deal with those accordingly. Once the baby is geared towards the growth of the teeth, there are a lot more difficulties that need to be faced.

Here are some of the indicators of infant teething. Knowing some of these would help you make necessary precautions to ease out baby’s pain and suffering:

* As the teeth try to push through outwards, the gums begin to bulge making it possible for the teeth outline to be very visible.

* Crying and walking of the baby during night time is also a sign of irritation and discomfort caused by the coming out of baby teeth. Babies’ inability to talk forces them to cry and become restless.

* Commotion and uneasiness. Your baby may show some unlikely behavior more than what is normally expected.

* Increase in drooling. It is normal for babies to salivate but then again, the pushing outwards of the teeth trigger excessive drool.

* Frequent biting of hand and clinging on to teething rings and other objects. The desire to bite is usually associated with easing out of the pain. Biting and clinging becomes your baby’s defense mechanism against the hurt he or she is feeling while teething.

* Poor appetite is also a sign of the growth of the teeth. Baby’s eating routine may also get interrupted. Expect a change in the diet as you need to provide easily digestible foods and more fruits and juices.

* Sleep deprivation is also a trait of the teething stage. Inability to sleep is due to the pain. Try to calm the baby and soothe the gums with oral gel or other interventions as prescribed by the doctor.

There are twenty primary teeth which would sprout out of your baby’s gums. Imagine how many times your infant would undergo irritation, discomfort and pain. The first teeth may cause severe hassles but the pain eventually lessens as the succeeding teeth come out. Mothers need to consult their pediatrician regarding the proper care of babies when teething begins.

Teething could also have a great impact to breastfeeding mothers especially if the first teeth are the two frontlines on the upper portion. In this case, feeding procedures could be altered in order to provide the proper condition for your child.

It’s a Fact We Are All Getting Older

Published by admin under Baby Boomer

Fact We Are All Getting OlderIt’s true every day we get a little bit older and a little bit wiser, but as time goes on we seem to lose the ability to go and do many things we have always enjoyed doing. We must face the fact our physical bodies are making changes. As we grow older we realize often times problems arise we never thought would be a bother. When we are in our prime we never worry about the problems of incontinence, bed wetting and having accidents when we cough or sneeze. Yet, as our bodies age we again experience these situations that, thankfully, can be controlled with products which are designed to fit our needs.

We are finding many children are caring for their parents in their homes. The Baby Boomers are getting to the age of needing assistance in their daily lives. The idea of children loving and caring for their parents is wonderful but can develop into a situation that can sometimes be very difficult. It is important to have as many daily living aids and disposable convinces at our finger tips when caring for our loved ones, so we as care givers, are able to give the proper care without becoming so exhausted we are unable to care for ourselves. The care people need is and can only be as good as the care giver is physically and mentally able to give.

There is a wide variety of incontinence products available. Disposable underwear such as adult pull ups, diapers and disposable pants/panties are available in various sizes and absorbancies. To help keep home life clean and sanitary, disposable beds pads and under pads are wonderful to use on furniture and in the car. All of these products provide confidence and convenience for the user.

Handicap bathing supplies such as shower stools, transfer benches, and hand grips are invaluable to both the care giver and the patient. Safety in the bathroom as well as anyplace in the home needs to be a top priority. According to The National Center for Injury Control, one out of every three adults over the age of 65 falls each year. In 1997 over 400,000 adults over the age of 65 sustained falls in their homes. These home accidents often happen in the bathroom. Daily living aids like simple hand grips in the bathing area and next to the toilet add that little extra help which is often times needed. Other aids like toilet seat risers and bath mats are easy to install, keep clean and use.

Yes, we are all getting older each day but with careful thought and planning we will be able to continue doing the things we enjoy doing even if we have to make a few changes in our homes and clothing.
