The Green Movement Has Taken on a Life of Its Own – Are You Living the Green Life?
No matter where you go today, you hear much talk about the green movement. Even companies advertising on television talk about their support for going green. So many people are talking-the-talk – saying all the right things. But do they really walk- the -walk? Most people only do one or two things in support of the movement. Primarily, these include putting out bottles and cans in separate containers and tying up paper and boxes for recycling day. But there is so much more to it than that. As great as these two initiatives are, there are countless many things we can do in support of the movement.
If you are truly serious about saving the planet, your go green efforts must include the following:
1. Saving Water. Did you know that simply choosing a more water efficient laundry detergent saves water? There are also chemical free laundry detergents that are even better. Here are a few other things you can do to help save water.
· Fix leaky toilets
· Fix dripping faucets
· Upgrade old toilets
· Wash clothes and dishes only when the load is full
2. Saving Energy. Most people know about this but even fewer do it – replace non efficient light bulbs with energy saving bulbs. I am quite sure that everyone has heard about the following at some point and time but just has not done them.
· Turn computers off when not in use
· Turn heat down at night
· Unplug mobile phone when fully charged
· Cut down on just idling your car
· Close curtains and shades to block out the hot sun on warm days
3. Reduce Waste. Here are a few great ways to reduce waste in your home:
· Consider using non disposable cups, silverware and napkins
· Consider using a water filter to reduce plastic bottle use
· Shop online as much as possible to cut down on vehicle carbon emissions
· Cut down on unnecessary copying and printing
· Use electricity and gas from providers that get their energy supply from greener sources-wind mill and solar
